Some undocumented youth have been given temporary permission to stay in the United States under a program called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. These individuals are lawfully present in the United States and can be granted work authorization and Social Security numbers. However, they are not currently eligible for Medicaid, CHIP, or the Marketplaces. (45 C.F.R. §§ 155.20, 152.2.) Some states may provide state-funded Medicaid or CHIP coverage to these individuals, or provide financial assistance for private health insurance.
