QUESTION

When should I return to the Marketplace to renew my plan and update my eligibility for subsidies?

Individuals with coverage | Individual and Marketplace Health Coverage |
ANSWER

In most states, open enrollment for 2024 coverage is from November 1, 2023 to January 16, 2024. To ensure you are optimizing any financial assistance for which you might be eligible, you must return to the Marketplace to update your eligibility and enroll into a health plan by January 16, 2024. Some states may have a different or longer open enrollment period, so check with your state Marketplace. Additionally, if your income or household size changes during the course of the year, you should report that change to the Marketplace within 30 days to ensure you continue to receive the correct amount of financial assistance. If you fail to do so, you could be required to return a portion of those funds to the IRS when you file your taxes. (45 C.F.R. §§ 155.335(e), 155.410)
